The Konzerthaus Berlin opens the 2024/25 season on 6 September 2024 with several highlights: Under the direction of chief conductor Joana Mallwitz, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin will perform works by Adams, Dvořák and Rachmaninov with cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who will be making his first appearance as Artist in Residence in 2024/25.
For the first time, the season-opening concert will also be livestreamed here on the website and is thus open to all classical music enthusiasts and interested parties free of charge.
Joana Mallwitz leads the Konzerthausorchester Berlin into her second season as chief conductor with a dance programme: "Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto adds a particularly festive element thanks to its familiarity and elegance. Apart from that, it goes very well with John Adams' 'The Chairman Dances' and Sergei Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances: We have three composers from three eras who went to America and dealt with issues of exile, flight and home. While abroad, they incorporated musical elements from their homeland into their works."
The solo part in Dvořák's cello concerto will be performed by Sheku Kanneh-Mason. The acclaimed British cellist is Artist in Residence at the Konzerthaus Berlin in the coming season and will be performing various programmes as a soloist and chamber musician as well as in the new interdisciplinary discussion format "Universum".
