“Alles bleibt anders” (Everything remains different) is the motto of the anniversary season at Gendarmenmarkt. The Konzerthaus Berlin is taking its 200th anniversary as an opportunity to look ahead: commissioned works, new compositions and digital experiments are among the surprises that await audiences in the coming season.

All highlights

The Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Principal Conductor Christoph Eschenbach will perform three particularly festive programmes in 2020/21 – to open the season, at the turn of the year and 200 years to the day after the inauguration of the building as part of our bicentennial gala on 26 May 2021. There will always be wonderful music by Carl Maria von Weber, whose romantic opera “Der Freischütz” celebrated its world premiere shortly after the building opened on Gendarmenmarkt.

“Der Freischütz” celebrates 200 years

Exactly 200 years after the world premiere of Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischütz”, the Catalan theatrical group La Fura dels Baus, celebrated worldwide for its avant-garde opera productions, will venture deep into the German forest to deliver an exciting new interpretation of this Romantic opera in the Great Hall.
