Weihnachtskonzert des Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasiums
“I lived in Berlin for seven years in my twenties and enjoyed going to the Konzerthaus often during that time. The city means a lot to me. I'm delighted to be returning here for this special occasion.”
Right at the start of the 2025/26 season, we welcome the Munich pianist with Japanese roots to her residency at the Gendarmenmarkt. For the season's opening on September 5 & 6, she will perform a concerto written for her by our Composer in Residence Bryce Dessner with the Konzerthausorchester under the baton of Joana Mallwitz, highlighting many facets of her artistry from virtuoso to lyrical.
From October 31 to November 2, you can once again hear Alice with the Konzerthausorchester and its chief conductor. The programme includes Maurice Ravel's jazz-inspired Piano Concerto in G major, which he wrote at the end of the 1920s. The portrait evening “Alice Sara Ott's Universe" on November 10 poses questions about the connections between music, food and identity.
On January 26, you will hear our artist in residence perform sonatas by Beethoven and nocturnes by John Field as part of her solo recital.
Alice Sara Ott will perform another work by Beethoven on May 22 & 23: his Piano Concerto No. 3, with which she will also accompany the Konzerthausorchester and Joana Mallwitz on a week-long tour of major concert halls in Germany.
Finally, she will be a soloist with the Konzerthaus Kammerorchester under the direction of our First Concertmaster Sayako Kusaka for the programme “Papa Haydn” on our Haydn Day at June 7.
“I hope that we finally understand how important it is to invest in the preservation and further development of a cultural state. Where else, if not in culture, are there places where people come together to experience something in community and unite in the art of listening?”
With her visionary projects and globally successful albums as well as in her work with leading orchestras and conductors, our new Artist in Residence, pianist Alice Sara Ott, is one of the most forward-thinking classical musicians. A Deutsche Grammophon artist for over 16 years, her recordings have led to more than 500 million streams. Ott’s pioneering recital tours redefine classical music for the modern era, making her one of the most influential artists of her generation.
Alice Sara Ott will begin her residency right at the start of the season with a piano concerto composed especially for her by our Composer in Residence Bryce Dessner. She will appear as a guest soloist with the Konzerthaus Orchestra on several occasions. Her John Field and Beethoven project, with which she is currently touring China and Europe, is also on our programme, as is her new chamber music project, “Papa Haydn”.
In December 2025, the artist will appear with Isabelle Huppert at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris in a production based on the correspondence between John Cage and Merce Cunningham, with music by Bryce Dessner. In 2026, Deutsche Grammophon will release her album of works for solo piano by Jóhann Jóhannsson. Her current album from 2025, featuring the complete Nocturnes by John Field, has been a worldwide success with six weeks at the top of the Apple Music Classical Charts.
