What we are particularly looking forward to in the coming weeks

“A cosmos of four horns and orchestra”

Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Timo Steininger

Our horn player Timo Steininger recommends the concerts on May 9 & 10, when the horn quartet german hornsound, which he co-founded around 15 years ago, will be performing a commissioned work by Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür with the Konzerthausorchester:

“Playing in a horn quartet is great fun because our instrument can cover a wide range from low to high. However, compositions for horn quartet and orchestra are very rare – most people only know Schumann's Konzertstück. That's why we are delighted that Erkki-Sven Tüür has written his Symphony No. 10 with four solo horns for us. We exchanged a lot of ideas with him during the creative process. The work tells of the cosmos, with the instrument groups and us as communicating planets. This spherical character is reinforced by the fact that we are positioned at different locations in and outside the hall. The movements flow into one another and have very different moods. We had to postpone the planned world premiere at the Konzerthaus due to the pandemic, so we are now all the more looking forward to playing the work here. If the audience is enthusiastic, there will of course be an encore from our horn quartet repertoire.”

“Excitement, joy & pleasure“

Karoline Bestehorn

Violinist & KHKO board member Karoline Bestehorn is looking forward to the Konzerthaus Kammerorchester's last concert of the season with pieces by Dvořák, Janáček and Beethoven. The chamber orchestra is led by one of our First Concertmasters - on May 15, it's Sayako Kusaka's turn. She ist also KHKO's artistic director. The pieces and the soloists are always chosen by the musicians themselves, who are also responsible for the administrative part.

"Our chamber orchestra has been in existence for more than 15 years, and we are very happy to be able to practise this form of music-making. It gives us musicians the opportunity to get in touch with each other in a very intimate and subtle way, to listen and react to each other. Each and every one of us is important! After each concert, we all meet in the canteen, toast the successful concert together and the atmosphere is relaxed and warm. We need three things: excitement, joy and pleasure!"

“Three fantastic singers and exciting artistic personalities”

Our dramaturge Micha Häußermann is very much looking forward to the concert with Liedstadt and Ensemble Resonanz on May 26:

“Mais Harb, Hêja Netirk and Julian Prégardien are not only three fantastic singers, but also exciting artistic personalities on stage. I find it very exciting and inspiring to bring together different musical backgrounds and modes of expression and the possibilities for combining them in a concert program. The musicians of Ensemble Resonanz and their guests, with their great openness and musical flexibility at the highest level, are the perfect partners for this. And the fact that the children from the Al-Farabi Music Academy will be joining them on stage and becoming an active part of this concert makes me very happy and will certainly be another highlight of this evening.”
