What we are particularly looking forward to in the coming weeks

Night Session with podcaster

Our colleague Immanuel Klein from programme planning is already looking forward very much to June 21:

“Our second and final ‘Night Session’ of the season will then take place in the Great Hall. Joana Mallwitz has developed this format, which always revolves around a shared topic, especially for Konzerthaus and the Konzerthausorchester.

I'm looking forward even more than usual to the upcoming episode, which is entitled ‘Listening’, because podcaster Matze Hielscher will be our guest. I admire him as an insightful, exciting interviewer and never miss an episode of his podcast ‘Hotel Matze’. A few weeks ago, Joana Mallwitz was his guest. The two of them had an enormously authentic, intense conversation. What luck to now to be able to listen to the sequel at Konzerthaus!“

A Concert for a very good cause

Felix Korinth

Violist Felix Korinth has been the academy representative of the Konzerthausorchester for several years - elected by his colleagues to promote the interests of our orchestra academy named after honorary conductor Kurt Sanderling. He is very much looking forward to a concert on June 22:

“For years, we have been keen to put on a concert for the benefit of the academy in order to secure its existence and even expand it in the future. Thanks to the great commitment of our wonderful chief conductor, it is now taking place. Under her direction, we will play Brahms' ‘Akademische Festouvertüre’ and Beethoven's Fifth together with the Academy members. In between, the stage belongs to them alone for Mendelssohn's wonderful string octet. I am also looking forward to telling tne audience a little about our academy this evening. But listening to us making music together is the best way to explain the meaning and purpose of the Orchestra Academy without words!”

Music in every hall & on Gendarmenmarkt

Our Social Media Manager Eleonora Gelmetti is looking forward to the Open House on July 6:

"When we had the last Open House two years ago, I had only been at the Konzerthaus for a very short time. All the events and concerts by the Konzerthausorchester and various ensembles, the many children, trying out instruments here, face painting there - everywhere there was something to film or someone to interview. It was a really intense start for me. However, the Gendarmenmarkt was closed because of the building site. Everyone told me that the atmosphere on the open-air stage in front of the Freitreppe is always something special. So when I was asked to present the concerts there with two colleagues, I said yes straight away. I'm really looking forward to it."

A personal universe

Our Head of the Programme Department Dorothee Kalbhenn is looking forward to music and talk of the portrait evening “Sheku Kanneh-Mason's Universe” on July 10:

“Who knew that Sheku Kanneh-Mason spends every April on the Caribbean island of Antigua? And that there is a youth orchestra there that our artist in residence has been involved with for six years? When Sheku Kanneh-Mason takes us into his own universe, the Antigua & Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra is a topic close to his heart. He has invited two important allies as special guests: The orchestra director of the “ABYSO” and the High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda in the United Kingdom. He will also be presenting his personal playlist across genres and inviting two close musical companions on stage to perform chamber music. At the end of his residency, he will once again celebrate the joy of playing together!”
