Disruptive, threatening and at the same time the primal beginning of a creative process - our relationship to chaos is divided. The Chaos String Quartet lives up to its name and devotes itself to this ambivalent state by tidying things up a little before the Konzerthausorchester tells the most famous musical creation story at the end of our festival.

Fugues by Bach and Beethoven sneak in between the composed confusion of Haydn, Rebel and Ligeti, in whose string quartet, according to the composer, “all movements are present at the same time”. In his “Great Fugue”, Beethoven takes the compositional principle of orderly polyphony to such extremes that contemporary ears were more confused than clear. Possibly a classic case of chaotic order?
