From Budapest to Boulder, Colorado: the Takács Quartet was founded in 1975 by four students of the Budapest Academy of Music and moved to the USA with their families in 1983. Of the founding members, cellist András Fejér has remained loyal to the ensemble to this day; the other desks have since been filled by musicians from Great Britain and the US. Their repertoire spans the entire history of the genre, with a focus on the quartet works of Haydn and Bartók – both composers are part of the programme played at Konzerthaus Berlin. In addition, there is the only string quartet by Maurice Ravel, which they just released on CD earlier this year.
