Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Sinfonie Es-Dur KV 16 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Konzert für Klarinette und Orchester A-Dur KV 622 Pause Joseph Haydn Notturno Nr. 8 G-Dur Hob II:27 Joseph Haydn Sinfonie Nr. 98 B-Dur Hob I:98

Between the little symphony in E-flat major for two violins, viola, double bass, two oboes, and two horns by the 8-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus from 1764 and his only clarinet concerto from 1791 lies an entire composer's life—Mozart died in the same year at the age of only 35. With this journey through life, historical performance practice expert Ton Koopman returns to the podium of the Konzerthaus Orchestra as a guest in the Viennese Classical series.

The wonderfully melodious clarinet concerto with its famous adagio and virtuoso rondo is played by Daniel Ottensamer, principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic and one of the most sought-after soloists on his instrument.

Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 98 from the spring of 1792 is the sixth of his twelve London symphonies. It makes effective use of timpani and trumpets. In the solemn second movement, material from Mozart's Coronation Mass and Jupiter Symphony can be heard – possibly a tribute to his friend and colleague who had died a few months earlier.
