Sayako Kusaka, first concertmaster of the KHO, is the artistic director of our Konzerthaus Chamber Orchestra and will lead the ensemble on this evening. The programme features Richard Strauss' “Metamorphosen” for 23 solo strings and Franz Schubert's string quartet “Death and the Maiden” in Gustav Mahler's arrangement for string orchestra—an intense, dark combination that brings out the tonal beauty of string instruments in ensemble playing and leads into the depths of the human soul.
