Weihnachtskonzert des Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasiums
At Vladimir Jurowski's first concert with unitedberlin over 30 years ago, Georg Katzer's “Szene für Kammerensemble” was performed, which is on the programme again in this tribute to the composer. As former master students, Helmut Zapf, Lutz Glandien, and Ralf Hoyer also honour their mentor with world premieres that refer to current affairs and cultural politics, just as “Szene für Kammerensemble” did at the time - then still subversive, under the guise of Goethe quotations about his musical environment. Katzers' vision “Eutopia,” which he calls his “hymn for an unknown country,” follows. An important point of reference for the composer since the early 1980s has been the poetry of Büchner Prize winner Wolfgang Hilbig. “La fabbrica abbandonata III” is based on a text by the poet, in which language and music meet congenially.
