Bryce Dessner has enjoyed great success not only as a composer but also as the guitarist for the rock band “The National.” Most recently, his soundtrack for the film “Train Dreams” was nominated for an Oscar. However, since it is well known that strength lies in stillness, our composer-in-residence is often drawn away from the stage into the forest. His relationship with this important “place of power”—which he will discuss, among other things, this evening—is reflected in various works. Also with us will be his sister, poet Jessica Dessner, who continues to inspire him deeply to this day, as well as cellist Anastasia Kobekina. He wrote the concerto “Trembling Earth” for her, which is on the programme this week for its German premiere with the Konzerthausorchestra. Six members of our KHO cello section will join us as well.

The event will be conducted primarily in English.
