Led by Berlin harpsichordist Elina Albach, the CONTINUUM ensemble always finds surprising connections between early music and the present day. In their new programme, ‘Tehillim’, they combine their historical instruments with modern percussion played by Frames Percussion from Barcelona. Together they devote themselves to the work of Chiara Margarita Cozzolani: as a composer, singer and musical director of the Benedictine convent in Milan, the nun was a well-known artist in the 17th century. Her psalm settings meet Steve Reich's monumental work ‘Tehillim’ (Hebrew for ‘psalms’) from 1981. In it, the composer explores his Jewish roots and draws inspiration from the structure and word rhythm of Hebrew liturgical chant. Across centuries and religions, Cozzolani's and Reich's creations form musical stories about individual suffering and emancipatory power.

“Berlin Tracks - Music of the City in the Konzerthaus” is the name of our new series: in four concerts this season, musicians and ensembles from Berlin will cross paths, bringing together experimental Western classical music from different centuries with styles that all have a home in this city - from folklore to soul to electropop. Berlin Tracks aims to inspire, connect communities and invite you to follow different musical tracks that together make up the soundtrack of our city.
