Listening mindfully and connecting deeply with an acoustic environment – who wouldn’t want to experience that when attending a concert? In a pre-concert workshop, you can learn about “Deep Listening” using the method developed by composer and musicologist Pauline Oliveros, and then try it out straight away.

Set to music by Renaissance composer Thomas Tallis and his English compatriot Ralph Vaughan Williams, 88 members of our orchestra will mingle with the audience in the Great Hall for “Terretektorh” – a spectacular, rarely performed work that, in the words of composer Iannis Xenakis, “envelops you in sound and music and creates a sense of physical closeness.” Other highlights of this “Wandelkonzert“ through three halls invite you to enjoy a movement from Mozart’s ethereal “Gran Partita” and, with Eleanor Alberga, to sink into the arms of Morpheus, the god of dreams, before our percussionists bring everyone back into their bodies and to the here and now with a piece by Steve Reich.

To round out the opening night, the Berlin duo TEKNOIR (Jan Westermann and Ingo Reddemann) will treat the audience to a party that blends “ritual, club night, and controlled escalation.”
