Lieder von Nadia und Lili Boulanger

The Boulanger sisters' careers as composers ended early - for different reasons. But their songs, which are often based on texts by symbolist poets such as Verlaine, Maeterlinck or Francis Jammes and tell of world-weariness, make up such a large proportion that they fill three CDs. Nadia wrote her first, based on a text by Victor Hugo, when she was fourteen; Lili was only eleven when she wrote her first song, and her last - which bears the telling title “Dans l'immense tristesse” - dates from 1916. Lucile Richardot - named “Lyric Artist of the Year” (Victoires de la Musique) in spring 2025 - and her piano partner Anne de Fornel have recently released an impressive complete recording, from which they perform a selection here.
