Weihnachtskonzert des Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasiums
What if music history could not only be heard, but also experienced? What if composers from centuries past had left us not only their works, but also their thoughts – right there in the concert hall? In ‘Composed for Eternity,’ sound and history merge into an extraordinary experience. Four composers – four journeys through time. Two of them appear to the audience in a new way: In scenically designed projections, Felix Mendelssohn and George Frideric Handel appear as virtual avatars – reflecting, narrating, inspiring. The opening piece, Mozart's Symphony No. 13, which he wrote at the tender age of 15, is followed by Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto – one of the most beautiful solo concertos of the 19th century. It is performed by Niklas Liepe, Opus Klassik award winner and one of the most innovative violinists of his generation. With George Frideric Handel's Water Music, the concert immerses itself in early 18th-century London. The concert concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C major – his bold debut in the symphonic genre. The musical direction is provided by Raphael Merlin, conductor, artistic director and principal conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and former cellist of the award-winning Quatuor Ébène.
