SOMNIUM

Inszeniertes Konzert mit gamut inc
gamut inc Marion Wörle Composer Maciej Sledziecki Composer

Johannes Kepler’s story “Somnium,” published as early as 1608, describes a journey to the moon and is thus considered one of the first works of science fiction. Inspired by this, the ensemble gamut inc has developed a staged concert for the Konzerthaus organ, a narrator, and their two BLACK SQUARE modular organs. As in Kepler’s dream vision, listeners become witnesses to a fantastical and psychedelic universe that always eludes the earthly observer.

Founded by the composer duo Marion Wörle and Maciej Śledziecki, the Berlin-based ensemble gamut inc has been performing internationally since 2013 with automatable pipe organs and specially developed music machines, and is one of the key figures in the New Organ Movement. In the 2026/27 season, gamut inc will be our resident ensemble in our organ series. It will present, among other things, two evening concerts and will engage in an in-depth exploration of the automated Konzerthaus organ. It will enter into dialogue with BLACK SQUARE, the wind-dynamic modular organ developed specifically by gamut inc and Tony Decap. The spatial arrangement of both instruments in the hall, the computer-enhanced playing possibilities of the new concert hall hyper-organ, and the dynamic and microtonal capabilities of BLACK SQUARE enable sound sculptures and multi-layered compositions.
