Sommerliche Führung durch das Konzerthaus Berlin
In addition to the concerts given by our four permanent chamber music ensembles and the Konzerthaus Kammerorchester, each season features a series of concerts in which KHO musicians join forces with a few guest artists in ever-changing line-ups.
This Sunday matinee features Franz Schubert’s famous “Trout Quintet” with its wonderful melodies, in which the composer combines double bass and piano with a string trio. Before that, the five string players will perform a quintet by George Onslow (1784–1853), who was celebrated in his day as the ‘Beethoven of France’ and who was granted a considerably longer life than his contemporary Schubert (1797–1828). The French nobleman wrote many works for various chamber music ensembles and had a particular fondness for the string quintet and its expanded instrumental possibilities. Numerous examples of these 34 “elegant and melodious” compositions were frequently performed and extremely popular in his day.
