Stephan Petzold studied in Berlin at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music and at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. As a chamber musician, he plays with ensembles in Germany and abroad such as concertare berlin, the Bach Academy and the Bach Collegium Berlin. He is chairman of the pedagogical working group for double bass “PAKINO” and is involved in music education for children and young people. He teaches international master classes and has held a professorship at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music since 1998. Stephan Petzold plays instruments created by Vincenco Luccarini and William Gilkes.
