Espresso-Konzert
“Outstanding” and “long overdue” - the double CD that Christoph Eschenbach and the Konzerthausorchester dedicated last year to works by the composer Franz Schreker (1878 - 1934), who was so successful during his lifetime and later almost forgotten, was enthusiastically received by critics. Now three of the multifaceted orchestral compositions by the late Romantic composer, some of which are reminiscent of film music, will be performed live in the Great Hall.
An interlude from the opera “Der ferne Klang” and two instrumental pieces frame the famous cello concerto by Edwar Elgar (1857-1934). The soloist in this deeply melancholy masterpiece is Kian Soltani, who is in the fortunate position of being able to perform on a Stradivarius cello called “The London, ex Boccherini” on loan from the Beare's International Violin Society.
