Rundgang
The formidably stringent structure of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, consisting of a single aria and 30 variations, inspired harpsichordist Jean Rondeau (here at the piano) and percussionist Tancrède Kummer to create a work that can be experienced in a highly focused way during a dark concert in an unadorned Große Saal. The central idea is continuous renewal as the hallmark of a living work. The two artists have borrowed the title “Undr” (Icelandic; Engl. wonder) from a short story by Jorge Luis Borges. Together with the music, spoken texts by Valère Novarina, Shura Rusanova and Ezra Pound form a work in which the boundaries between writing, interpreting and improvising begin to blur.
