Gidon Kremer, to whom this year’s homage pays tribute, promotes young musicians from the Baltic countries in activities which extend far beyond his ensemble Kremerata Baltica. He has also been supporting young composers for many years. The Latvian organist Iveta Apkalna toured the Baltic States with the Konzerthausorchester last year and has felt perfectly at home at our Jehmlich organ since the Baltic Festival. Both alone and accompanied by the Kremerata Baltica, she will be playing works by Johann Sebastian Bach as well as the Latvians Zarinš (1910 – 1993), Vasks (*1946) and Ešenvalds (*1977).
