Rundgang durch das Konzerthaus Berlin
Igor Stravinsky not only created a memorial to the Russian Punch figure Petrushka, but also to the Italian buffoon Pulcinella in a ballet. The resulting neo-Baroque suite from 1922 will be performed by the Konzerthaus Chamber Orchestra as part of “Absolut Strawinsky!” The model for the “tarantella” in “Pulcinella” is the fourth movement of “Concerto Armonico No. 2” by Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer. Decades before his interest in early music grew into a powerful current, Ottorino Respighi tracked down old lute tablatures in Italian archives and libraries and arranged the recorded songs and dances in three suites for orchestra. The third of these is on the programme today.
