Victor Kissine „Another question“ - Essay for string and symphonic orchestras (UA - Auftragswerk des Konzerthauses Berlin) Mieczysław Weinberg Konzert für Violine und Orchester g-Moll op. 67 Pause Dmitri Schostakowitsch Sinfonie Nr. 5 d-Moll op. 47

Together with the Kremerata Baltica and Gidon Kremer, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and chief conductor Christoph Eschenbach will perform a premiere by Victor Kissine (*1953). Kremer is the soloist for Weinberg’s Concerto for Violin, in which turmoil, internal unrest and the courage to live can all be heard. The much-discussed Symphony No. 5 by Weinberg’s mentor Shostakovich will close the evening. Christoph Eschenbach comments on Shostakovich and his work: “One of my predecessors at the Konzerthaus Berlin was the great Shostakovich conductor Kurt Sanderling. [...] I am excited about this orchestra, in whose DNA Shostakovich is being passed from one generation to the next. Shortly before his death, the composer slowed the tempo in the coda of the last movement of his Fifth Symphony; away from jubilation and towards something more tragic and painful. This is the version we will play. Personally, it moves me very much.”
