A visit from neighbours: The Kammerakademie Potsdam arrives at Gendarmenmarkt! They bring along exceptional pianist Jan Lisiecki, who could last be heard with us in 2018. Folklore and sophistication, youthful insouciance and profundity are all merged in his performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Schubert’s Symphony No. 3, written when the composer was not even 20 years old. Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony”, which concludes the concert, characterises a new musical attitude – darker and more abrupt, it allows soundscapes to collide unexpectedly.
