What do you do before a concert?

I don’t have a special ritual, but I try to get some sleep and get ready in peace and quiet. Just before I go on stage, I need to drink a glass of water, because I often get a dry throat when I get a little excited.

Is there an instrument other than your own that you would like to master?

There are many instruments I would love to be able to play. Cello, but also drums and piano would all be on my wish list. But I would like to be able to sing beautifully most of all.

Which concert with the Konzerthausorchester was a special emotional experience for you?

It wasn’t a concert, unfortunately, but a rehearsal with the first Mahler symphony of my life, his Third. I was really looking forward to it, and we had just managed a rehearsal with Maestro Fischer when the Covid-19 measures got underway in Berlin and further rehearsals were no longer possible. At the time, I didn’t know how the situation would deteriorate, and that first and only Mahler rehearsal will certainly remain in my memory for a long time.

Which composer particularly inspires you?

At the moment I’m working a lot with Bach and Beethoven. These two composers and their music touch me very deeply.
